Transportation in Naran: PTDC Bus

The Bus

Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) offers a comfortable bus service for Naran. Their luxury bus leaves from Flashman Hotel, Rawalpindi daily at 9 a.m. and reaches at PTDC Motel, Naran at 5:15 p.m. The bus stops at Mona Liza Restaurant, Abbotabad ( next to Red Onion, near PTDC Abbotabad ) for 15 minutes tea break. The last stop is PTDC Balakot motel at 2 p.m, where a coster van (known as flying coach) takes you to Naran.

Routes

The road condition from Islamabad to Naran is good, and from mid-June onward the road to Naran is open for regular cars, vans, and coaches, so people can take their own cars this route as well. (If you are driving, always start early in the morning to safely reach your destination well before dark.) PTDC is operating a bus from Fleshman’s Hotel, Saddar, Rawalpindi to direct Naran.

Another route is from Naran to Rawalpendi. Many visitors opt for the PTDC bus service instead of local transportation (This can sometimes be overloaded and a hassle if you are loaded with luggage, camping equipment, or other family travelling gear.) You can make a reservation at the PTDC motel in Naran. A one way trip fare is just a little higher than local transport but not too bad. The first stop will likely be about 15 min at a PSO pump station in Balakot for refueling and quick refreshments followed by a lunch break at a hotel in Manshera.

Tips

Those travelling through Public Transport may have to change a couple buses when coming from Islamabad: Islamabad to Mansehra, then Mansehra to Naran.

Fares

Ticket is Rs. 1500/- per person. Bus leaves at 9 am and its around 9-10 hours journey.
