Prague Things to Do
Prague is the capital city of the Czech Republic. It is a vibrant city with lots of things to do to keep travelers occupied.
Cross a Bridge
The city of Prague is split by the Vltava River, so there are many stunning bridges throughout the region. Right in the heart of the city, you’ll find the Charles Bridge. It is probably the most well-known and the most-frequented by tourists. You’ll enjoy live entertainment from street buskers while you take in the beautiful sights of the city on both sides of the river. There are many companies offering river cruises as well, giving you the chance to get a different perspective on the city as you float down the river.
Be Square
Large town squares are quite popular in the region, and there are several of them in the heart of the city that are worth seeing. Old-Town Square is surrounding by many examples of stunning Czech architecture, and a monument to Jan Hus occupies the central focal point in the middle of the square. Hus was a religious reformer and a predecessor to the Protestant movement in the 16th century. Wenceslas Square is another popular option and is where you’ll find some of the best nightlife in the city. There are a number of hotels and restaurants here as well, making it a great jumping off point to see the rest of the city.
Go to Church
Prague has some of the most stunning churches and cathedrals in all of Europe, so be sure to take the time to visit at least a few of them. The St. Vitus Cathedral is the largest in the country. It was built over the course of many years, so its architecture reflects a variety of different styles, making it truly unique among the cathedrals in the area. The Church of Our Lady before Tyn is another must-see. It is situated in Old-Town Square and is one of the most recognizable sights in the city. Its spires can be seen from just about any clear vantage point in the city.
Visit a Castle
You could spend several days trying to see all of Prague Castle. This massive complex encompasses about 60 different buildings, so take your time to see as many as you can. It is like a city within a city. The White Tower was once used as a prison and today houses a medieval torture museum. The Old Royal Palace was the seat of royalty from the 13th to 16th centuries. This is also where you’ll find the St. Vitus Cathedral, discussed above.
With so many things to do and see in Prague, it is difficult to fit it all in with just a short visit, so be sure to allow ample time to really explore and get a feel for the city.
