Local Shopping
The country of Portugal borders Spain and sits comfortably along the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea. It is a popular destination that holds many stores where tourists can do their shopping.
There are many malls and shopping centers throughout the country. Amoreiras Shopping Center was Lisbon' s first major shopping mall, and opened in 1985. At this shopping center, there are lots of shops, a supermarket, several restaurants, cafes, and movie theaters. It is open until late in the evening, and also on Sundays.
Colombo Shopping Center is also located in Lisbon and has 420 shops and 64 restaurants. It's open every day from nine in the morning until midnight. If possible, avoid going on either Saturday or Sunday, since it gets very busy.
There are many local shops and markets where you can find interesting merchandise. Rua de Santa Catarina is a pedestrian street in downtown Porto. The stores there carry both popular brands as well as handicrafts, artisan foods, and other local products. In Faro, you can find local artists who paint pictures of the surrounding city and countryside. Finally, fish lovers might want to stop in Albufeira. The local Mercado Municipal Dos Caliços has twenty permanent stalls for fish. Plus, on Saturdays, local farmers bring a variety of goods for sell at the Mercado.
