Cultural Movement in Porto

On the 4th floor of the Rua Passos Manuel, in front of the Coliseu do Porto, there’s a place defined as a ‘cultural intervention space’ where you can have a drink, see some of the latest Porto artists’ works or listen to DJ spin some tunes.

Ribeira

There are a number of cafes by the river in Ribeira where you can admire the views of the city and the bridges at night, eat, drink, and watch the world go by.

Ryan’s Irish Bar has 2 floors. The upper level is very cozy and has a fantastic stone archway. There’s a huge selection of beers and whiskies from around the world. There’s a mixed Portuguese and international clientele. Sometimes there’s live music.

Petrus Bar Galeria is run by a great husband and wife team. Ask the wife about her beret.

Atelier

Atelier Cafe Bar is near the Palácio da Justiça, Museu da Fotografia and Torre dos Clérigos in the center of Porto. The beer and house-made sangria are poured out of two saxophones afixed to the bar, lit by LED lights that change colors. The décor includes an imposing chrome steel lamp with more than 150 crystal glasses. Tapas include a roast pork sandwich, an exceptional onion soup au gratin and escargots among other things, and a variety of wines or champagnes are served by the glass. The music is mainly jazz or popular songs from the 1950’s to the 1980’s played at a comfortable level so it’s possible to have a conversation.
Prices are quite affordable.
