No matter what you have planned for your Pompeii adventure, these luggage options are ideal for a short or long-term stay.
A Good Guide Book
A guide book is essential. While there are audio guides and free maps at the entrance to the park, you want to make sure you have the information you need in a form that is familiar. Look for a guide book that is wholly focused on Pompeii in order to get an in-depth understanding of the long history of the site.
A Comfortable Pair of Shoes
The roads in Pompeii are dusty and unevenly paved. It’s easy to fall when you’re used to better modern streets. You need a good pair of shoes that will give you a firm grounding so you can keep your balance. Look for shoes with a closed toe. This will keep the dust from your feet and protect you from mud in case it rains.
Bring a few bottles of cold water and a good water bottle. The climate in Southern Italy is hot for most of the year. You need to stay hydrated. Some of the buildings in the city are sheltered but many are not. You’ll be out in the air for much of your time. Pompeii still has working fountains so you can fill up your water bottle on the city’s streets.
