From large malls selling the latest fashion to small bakeries and crafts people directly retailing their lace to the public, this is an excellent land to find bargains and unique, handmade objects that will fit in your suitcase. Enjoy both aspects of Polish culture when hunting for things to buy like lace and beautifully carved amber jewelry.

Galeria Krakowska

The largest mall in Krakow, this is right next to the train station so it’s easy to find. It’s home to over 250 shops, more than a dozen eateries and cafes and even cultural events. Meet with locals to encounter Polish culture and see how the people live. If you’re in Warsaw, check out the Orchid Mall. This is another large shopping center with lots of upscale stores. It’s indoors so it makes an ideal retreat from the rain and cold.

Laces from Koniakow

This is the place to go if you are looking for authentic pieces of Polish lace. Head here and you’ll find intricate tablecloths and other decorative pieces that are made by artisans.

Real Amber Jewelry

The honey brown substance has been admired for centuries. If you’re along a shore town in Poland you can often find amber in the wild or buy it from a local store. Polish amber is renowned the world over for it’s depth of color. Smaller pieces are ideal for a pendant while larger pieces are good for necklaces and earrings.

Oscypek Cheese

For a taste of authentic Polish cheese, look for these sheep’s milk cheese. They can be found in many major markets. They are kept in salt water for a year and then smoked. Pair them with some local brown bread for a fine snack or light lunch. For even more of a taste of Poland, head for Krakowski Kredens. This is a chain of retail shops selling classic Polish food. Sample the kielbasa and the ham along with the preserves and chocolate.
