Pizza Delivered to Delayed Plane on Tarmac

Passengers on a Delta flight from Boston to Atlanta were dismayed when their plane had to divert to Knoxville due to severe weather. After getting stuck on the tarmac for three hours, hungry flyers were probably getting pretty restless.

Luckily, the passengers didn’t have to resort to cannibalism, as some kind soul ordered pizzas to be delivered to everyone aboard the stranded flight.

As one passenger told WRCBTV, “I see a cop car pull up and I’m like, ‘this is going to be good, what’s going on here?’ Then I see a cop get out and a couple guys helping him with about 30 pizzas out of the back seat and I’m like, ‘oh alright we got some pizza… we’re going to have a little pizza party on the plane.'”

The pizzas appeared to placate the passengers, as no one took the Department of Transportation (DOT)-mandated option to leave a plane after a delay of more than three hours. (The DOT also requires airlines to give passengers food and water after delays of more than two hours, but they definitely don’t require a fast-food delivery.)

WXIA-TV reports that the pizzas were ordered from Pizza Hut by a Delta employee.

Unfortunately for one passenger, the pizza was not accompanied by a nice cold beer—as passenger Jen Vazmina told Today.com, “they just wouldn’t serve us beer… and yes we asked a bunch of times.”
