Patras Transportation – Taxi, Train, Bus & Airport Trips

Patras Transportation

West of Athens, Patras is one of Greece’s largest cities, and a must-see for any tourist. Getting to, from and around this large city is very simple, thanks to its vast network of ferries, bridges, buses and trains.

Buses and Trains to Patras

There are many daily buses to and from Athens that go through Corinthos and leave from Patras. They take about 3 hours, and cost just under 13 euros. The buses leave Patras from the local bus station by the harbour, almost in front of the train station. The train trip to Athens takes about 3 hours with the local train meeting the suburban system at Corinthos, although taking the bus is faster.

Patras by Sea

There are many ferries going to and from Patras, but Superfast is hands down the best one. The food on Superfast is excellent with a large menu, and the upscale restaurant in Superfast is a bit less pricey. The waiters and people who worked on Superfast have a friendly, cheerful and funny attitude, and the air conditioning in the Superfast cabins is also very nice. The adult price for deck space is 50 euro, but there are reduced fares of 40 euro if you are a student.

Driving Around Patras

If you plan on driving around the city, it’s recommended to get an international drivers licence. With a US license you can rent a car, but it would be a hassle if you got a ticket or get in an accident without a proper international one. The Charilaos Trikoupis bridge connects the mainland to Patras, and is said to be a modern engineering marvel.
