Things to Do in Goa: Panaji – Panjim City
Panaji, or Panjim City, is the capital of the Indian state of Goa. It is a great jumping-off point to get to other destinations in the region and offers plenty of things to do in and of itself.
Stroll along the River
Panjim is situated along the banks of the Mandovi River. While you are in town, take some time to go for a leisurely walk by the river. It is always a bustling area, so there is plenty of people-watching and sightseeing to do. Cruises are also available to take you along the river to get a different perspective on the city.
Take in Some Culture
If you’d like to see a sampling of local visual and performing arts, the Kala Academy is the place to go. Throughout the year, the facility hosts a number of art installations, as well as performances of music and dance. This will give you a chance to get a taste of the local culture through its art.
Enjoy Local Food and Drinks
Panjim is home to a wide range of restaurants for travelers to choose from. Each state in India has its own unique style of cuisine, so be sure to try some dishes that are distinctly Goan. Seafood is highly popular, thanks to the city’s close proximity to the Arabian Sea. Curry and tandoori spices are also highly prevalent on local menus. Vegetarian dishes are common as well, so don’t expect every restaurant to serve dishes containing meat.
