Padangbai Transportation
Padangbai, a small town, is located in Indonesia. This town is well-known for its role as a ferry port for travel to Lembar, The Gilis, and other Lesser Sunda Islands. If you’re planning on going to Padangbai, you probably want to visit all the landmarks and attractions that you probably can. Therefore, it is important that you have access to affordable and convenient transportation.
Fast Boat Travel
Fast boat travel is becoming incredibly common in Padangbai. In fact, there are many operators plying the route between Pandangbai, the Gilis, and Senggigi. Some operators leave from Amed and Benoa, which are further north or south respectively.
Fares for boat travel in Pandangbai vary. If you look at information brochures and tourist pamphlets, you will probably see Rp 650,000 as the quoted price for one-way. However, this is far higher than the negotiable price. In fact, the one-way fare can be about Rp 250,000 from Pendangbai to Gilis or Senggigi. You can get an affordable fare if you buy from the harbor directly. The trip will take about one hour and a half. The length of the trip depends on the number of stops and the sea conditions. There are some boats that go to Gilis directly and return by passing through Senggigi. Other boats take other routes.
Keep in mind that not all boat operators will stop at Gili Meno. Sometimes, weather conditions will cause fast boats to be canceled for a few days. For example, in January 2014, the fast boats could not run for a few days because of the high seas. Don’t count on taking a fast boat to leave Gilis the day of your flight to return home.
Ferry to Lambok
You can pay about Rp 40,000 to take a ferry to Lembar from Padangbai. This ferry runs every hour. The trip takes five hours or so. Be sure to negotiate a price beforehand if you need a porter to help you move your luggage. Don’t allow people to help you or you may get scammed.
You can also take a public boat to go to Nusa Pernida. Many operators in Perama and Ekajaya have boats to Senggigi, Gili, and Travangan. The cheapest trip that you can take is to Perama.
