What to Pack for Yosemite National Park – Packing List

Yosemite National Park What to Pack

Whether you’re going to Yosemite for the natural wonder or to get some serious hiking in, it helps to know what type of conditions you’ll face when you’re there. When you’re making your Yosemite National Park list, keep the following tips in mind for what to pack.

Luggage

For hiking, a backpack is key for entering the park, due to the fact you’ll definitely get some use out of whatever you choose to pack. For more relaxed stays where hiking may not be your number one priority, a carry-on will suit you just fine.

Clothing

Let’s be real, jeans probably aren’t the best pants to wear when visiting Yosemite National Park—we suggest you save them for the outlying towns. On your trip, don’t forget moisture-wicking materials and classic threads made for hiking. These are typically the norm in the area.

Outdoor Gear

You’ll be spending a lot of time outside, and even the summer nights can get chilly in the wee hours of the night. If you’re planning to camp on any of the nights, you’ll definitely need warm outdoor gear during the winter months. Rain and snow are not unusual, so you’ll need to plan ahead with warm socks, snug boots, and thermal underwear for when you’re out on the trails or in your cabin. Bring a good water bottle or a hydration pack, and some gum as the change in pressure can hurt people’s ears. Take snacks with you for more energy while you hike, and test out your equipment before you go so you know everything is comfortable for even the longer treks.

Accessories for Yosemite National Park

If you’re going during summer, take mosquito repellant and sun tan lotion. Towels can help tremendously during hikes to dry off sweat or potentially water from the falls and streams here. Always have a map with you in case you get lost on the trails (or on the roads.) Also be sure to take binoculars and a camera so you don’t miss out on anything. There’s a lot to see up here, so you’ll need to be ready at pretty much all times. Obviously, toiletries could be hard to come across. Anything important you think you may need on your trip, we definitely suggest you bring from home.
