If you don’t like getting bitten by mosquitos, you may want to have some insect repellent on hand. They are attracted to humid areas near water, which describe the island of Crete almost perfectly. Some areas on the island are worse than others. There is a part of the of the city of Hersonissos that is referred to as the mosquito swamp. Your hotel might be in this area, so be prepared.
Hiking is a popular activity on the island. Pack correctly if you are going to go on a hiking excursion. It can get very hot throughout the course of the day on the island, so be sure to bring as much water as possible in order to stay hydrated. You may also want to bring a camera since you will be hiking in some of the most beautiful scenery in the world.

The sun can be blistering on the beaches there. You may want to bring a hat to protect your face. You should also be sure to pack sunblock as well. Parts of the beach can be quite rocky, so wear corresponding footwear to help protect against this.
