Crete Island is the home to an ancient culture and tradition. It is the fifth-largest island in the Mediterranean Sea and the biggest island in the country of Greece. The beaches and the weather are some of the best in the world. If you are planning an upcoming visit to the island of Crete, here are some things that you should consider before you pack.
If you don't like getting bitten by mosquitos, you may want to have some insect repellent on hand. They are attracted to humid areas near water, which describe the island of Crete almost perfectly. Some areas on the island are worse than others. There is a part of the of the city of Hersonissos that is referred to as the mosquito swamp. Your hotel might be in this area, so be prepared.
Crete is hot, so pack summer clothes like shorts and tank tops. Throwing in a poncho or jacket could come in handy if the weather takes a turn for the worse. If you plan on doing a lot of walking make sure to pack comfortable sandals or sneakers. It also might be worth packing water shoes since there can be lots of rocks and sometimes glass in the water.
Clothes to Pack
The sun can be blistering on the beaches there. You may want to bring a hat to protect your face. You should also be sure to pack sunblock as well. Parts of the beach can be quite rocky, so wear corresponding footwear to help protect against this. All other toiletries we suggest you bring from home, but most can be bought on the island.
