Earlier this summer we asked readers to submit their favorite adventure travel photos. Here is the cream of the crop. Congrats to the eight selected photographers!

Heather Wade captured this mid-air shot of friend Bryan Nay bungee jumping off Bob's Peak, in Queenstown, New Zealand, during a March trip. "Like many adventure experiences, this coincidental moment happened by pure accident," says Wade. "Bob's Peak overlooks the busy waters of Queenstown below, and as Bryan swayed on the bungee cord, he appeared to be chasing the boat below."

Jennifer Feltner snapped this picture of the Incan ruins of Machu Picchu during an August 2006 trek. "I took this photo shortly after dawn at the Sun Gate, the end of the 30-mile Inca Trail that leads to Machu Picchu from Ollantaytambo, Peru," says Feltner.

Last September, Lindsay O'Connell took this picture of her friend Courtney Bryan making her way up the climbing route "Satisfaction Guaranteed" at New River Gorge in West Virginia. "[Courtney] has 'Montani Semper Libiri" tattooed on her back—the state motto of West Virginia," say O'Connell. "Translation: 'Mountaineers are always free.'"

"This shot was taken during a [March] trip to visit my friend Diana who is a Peace Corps Volunteer living in this village in Zambia," writes Kimly Nguyen. "Here, a family treks out at dawn to begin a day's work in the fields. I love this photo because it accurately depicts the villagers' family unit with everyone happily lending a helping hand. Also, look at that female's amazing skill—balancing baskets, buckets, and a baby!"

Apparently, you don't have to go far from shore in Malta to go diving. Ana Paula Mohallem took this photo of friends during a dive on a May trip to the Mediterranean island.

"Our family was vacationing on Gozo and we went to Ramla Bay to see the red, sandy beach," say Alissa Cole of her December 2006 visit to the Maltese island. "It was much too cold to swim, but this kiteboarder didn't seem to mind being the only one in the water."
