For its local charm and views, Nuwara Eliya receives a fair amount of visitors each year. Here are some tips for navigating the variety of Nuwara Eliya transportation options, both locally and on a trip to the city.
Getting To Nuwara Eliya
There is no train station in Nuwara Eliya. Instead, you can catch a train to Nanu Oya about six kms away. From there you can catch a bus or taxi or, if you arrive in the daytime, you may even choose walk in.
Bus routes are also available between Nuwara Eliya and most major towns. You can reach Colombo in about six hours, Kandy in about hour hours, and more. If you’re going by car from Colombo, the most direct route is the A7 via Avissawella.
Some travelers may prefer to take a tuk-tuk to their hotel. This can be a fun, local experience, and the price is usually quite low.
For many tourists, the most convenient option is to hire a car with a driver who can serve as a tour guide. With this, you will be able to travel anywhere in the city or nearby at any point of time.
The tour driver can be hired for several days at a time, and this person should be able to sort out all accommodation and entrances. You will provide a list of the places you wanted to visit, and the driver will give you the best advice for your plans.
