Iberia is making the airport experience faster and easier for travelers lugging checked bags. On Tuesday, the Spanish airline rolled out a program called MyBagTag, which allows flyers to print luggage tags at home and affix them to their own bags; this is an industry first.
With most airlines, flyers can check-in and print boarding passes before they get to the airport. But MyBagTag is the first program that permits people to tag their own luggage at home, too. Now, even those traveling with checked bags can skip the airport check-in queue. It’s a small improvement, yet it could probably save a flyer 10 or 20 minutes of time spent waiting in line.
Here’s how it works: Download and print your tag, and then fold it into quarters. At the airport, pick up a reusable plastic tag that holds your printed bag slip, and attach the thing to your luggage. Then drop off your suitcases at a designated bag-drop counter. Easy. No waiting in lines.
Ibera rolled out this perk as part of its Agora Project—an initiative designed to simplify and speed up the customer experience. (Interestingly enough, this project also includes a “holographic system” of virtual assistants; these are basically check-in kiosks with people-shaped screens next to them.)
