November Wedding (Martha’s Vineyard)

Author: Sunny Sue
Date of Trip: November 2007

We just attended a wedding on Martha’s Vineyard. Our stay and celebration was incredible. We stayed at The Shiverick Inn. I love old Victorian inns that sparkle with crystal and silver, and of course exceptional antiques. This particular Inn is very elegant yet the attitude is very casual. Decorated for Christmas, the mantles and staircase were trimmed with garland and ornaments. I guess it was a bit to early to put up fresh tree. Nevertheless, if you’re into Christmas, you wouldn’t have been disappointed. Every thing was very festive and antique looking. Breakfasts were great and the teas in the afternoon were nice too. Our room had a working fireplace which made the room even more cozy and romantic. What really made our stay so wonderful, however, was how welcomed we felt. The Innkeeper was very gracious and kind, and she certainly helped to make the wedding and our stay very special indeed.

Unfortunately, when we booked, we did not even think to ask if they take dogs. We were coming for a wedding and quite frankly didn’t even think that such an elegant place would allow dogs. However, we were pleasantly surprised to learn that ‘well behaved canine companions’ are welcome. So next time we visit, our beloved dachshund, Sunny, will come with us!

Regrettably, we didn’t have much time to explore the island itself. It was nice having the entire family stay at the Inn. It was kind of a pre-holiday holiday. We decided to bring our car since we had so much luggage. Since Martha’s Vineyard is an island, we had to take the Steamship Authority from Woods Hole, Massachusetts. It was exciting and fun to bring our car on the boat. We had such a great time, we’re already considering returning for a summer vacation, and most definitely staying at The Shiverick Inn.
