Nottingham Things To Do
Many people associate the town of Nottingham with Robin Hood. While it is the home of that fictional character, it is a real place, and is a major tourist destination in England. If historical sites and beautiful scenery are what you’re after, Nottingham is a must-visit next time you are in the UK thanks to these great things to do found throughout the city.
Nottingham Castle
This is probably the most popular attraction in the city and for good reason. There are plenty of attractions within the castle, including a museum of lace; plus another for armor, silver glass, and paintings; the statue of Robin Hood himself, and a classic British pub called Ye Olde Trippe to Jerusalem. Visitors can spend an entire afternoon at the castle without running out of things to do.
The best part about the castle is the actual top of the castle itself, which provides breathtaking views of the entire city—a must-stop attraction whenever visiting the area. The castle is just a 10-minute walk from the center of the city and the charge for admission is just a few pounds while kids get in free.
Explore the Caves
Unbeknowest to most, the city of Nottingham was built on top of a series of man-made caves which are still in existence to this day. The caves have been used for various purposes over the years, most recently as bomb shelters during World War II. There are great tours of these caves offered during which visitors can learn about the history of the caves and how they were used.
Wollaton Hall
Those looking for a good day trip during their stay in Nottingham should put Wollaton Hall on their itinerary. It is the biggest manor in the city. Its location is convenient, just twenty minutes or so from the center of downtown Nottingham. There is a natural history museum inside the manor that has free admission. The grounds include a lake and a botanical garden. The museum and the free admission make it a great attraction for those traveling with children.
