Midwesterners will soon have a new route to get directly to London. According to the Detroit News, Northwest Airlines will begin flying to Heathrow from Detroit on May 1, 2008. Northwest currently flies only to Gatwick; starting in spring, customers can choose routes to either London airport.
The daily Heathrow route will depart Detroit at 5:50 p.m. and arrive at 7:30 a.m. the next day. Return flights depart Heathrow at 8:50 a.m. each day, arriving in Detroit at 12:30 p.m. Northwest expects to fly Airbus A330 planes on the route, and use gates in Heathrow’s terminal 4.
Additionally, Northwest plans on adding additional daily service to Heathrow from Minneapolis and Seattle later in the spring, with dates to be determined. For updates, visit Northwest’s website.
