Norfolk Island

Author: Alan Mitchell
Date of Trip: August 2012

My wife and I did Norfolk Island from the 17th August to the 24th August.

We traveled with NZ Airlines (they are the only airline out of Sydney). The plane is an A320 Air Bus. If you want a meal and drink included in your fare make sure that you chose the correct fare. The trip over takes around 2 hours but the return trip takes around two and a half hours due to the jet streams.

We stayed at the Whispering Pines in a two bedroom unit, the units have plenty of space and are very clean throughout. Each bedroom has it’s own bathroom. The unit is fully self contained and also comes with a hire car that is included in your tariff but you have to pay and extra $18 per day for the insurance and fill up the tank with fuel when your stay is over.

Norfolk Island is a very scenic place with plenty to see all be it in a couple of days. The big down side to Norfolk is the prices due to the fact that most items are shipped in from either the mainland or NZ. You can expect to pay at least double the prices that are charged on the mainland of Australia. The average price for a main meal at the clubs range from around $17.50 up to $25 and at some restaurants up over $30. If you want to just relax and do nothing then Norfolk Island is for you.
