Niagara Falls What to Pack
Traveling to Niagara Falls is a once-in-a-lifetime event for many people. You want to make sure you know what to pack so you aren’t wasting time bouncing from store to store to buy what you need.
Luggage
No matter what you have planned for your Niagara Falls adventure, these luggage options are ideal for a short or long-term stay.
Clothing, Shoes, and Weather Gear
Casual clothes are appropriate at Niagara Falls, and you’ll be doing lots of walking, so pack comfortable clothes and shoes. It can become painful trying to trek around in sandals, especially if they get wet.
What you bring depends on the season, but either way you can pretty much leave the fancy clothing at home. You should always anticipate some spray from the falls, and you may become very wet just from standing near the falls. Also, keep in mind that the coldest months in Niagara Falls are between November and March when temperatures average between 21 and 39 degrees Fahrenheit. Snowfall is abundant in the winter months, and April and October can also feel brisk. June, July, and August are balmier with average temperatures ranging from 59 to 77 degrees Fahrenheit.
When visiting the “Cave of the Winds” or “Maid of the Mist” attractions, light water-resistant jackets come in handy, but both attractions give you a poncho to keep. The “Cave of the Winds” provides a cheap pair of free sandals, too (you will want to wear water shoes or these cheap sandals on the “Maid of the Mist” as well; it’s no fun walking around in wet socks/sneakers). Many people suggest toting rain gear, but with airline limits and baggage prices, it might not be worth it. Keep in mind whatever you wear, you’ll probably still get wet, so wear something that dries easily. If wet clothing bothers you, pack rain gear.
Consider packing a folding umbrella, because scattered short-lived storms are common. If visiting in winter, pack a warm coat, hat, and gloves. The Niagara region gets very cold and it’s common to see lots of snow.

Toiletries, Medical Supplies, and Miscellaneous Items
Toiletries and medical supplies to bring include hand sanitizer, insect repellent, wet wipes, and over-the-counter painkillers. Don’t forget sunscreen and a cap. Even though Niagara Falls is in the northern part of the U.S., the sun can still burn. It’s also very windy, so you might not feel the sun. Bring a small comb or hair brush, because many of the attractions bring new meaning to “bad hair day.” Carry some water bottles to avoid paying the high tourist prices.
Bring your passport! If you visit Canada, you’ll need it to re-enter the U.S. Also, bring credit or debit cards and cash. Make sure at least one person of your entourage has a backpack to the carry extra items you’ll need.

Photo Equipment
A camera is a must when visiting Niagara Falls, and disposable cameras won’t do the job. Bring a water-resistant camera or at least a waterproof case. If you use a point and shoot, a plastic sandwich baggy will do. The falls at night are great, but it’s hard to get a clear shot holding your camera, so consider a tripod or at least a mini tripod. Don’t forget to pack extra batteries (or charger) and a spare SD card, because you’ll be taking lots of photos.
Electronics to Pack
Backpack
Be sure to bring a backpack with you. You will probably want to take many photos, and some of the attractions involve water. You don’t want to be holding things that will get wet. Just don’t carry anything too heavy around, especially if you will be walking.
