New Zealand What to Pack
Have you ever been on a trip and wish you had remembered to pack something? What you bring on the trip with you and what you forget can have a direct impact on your vacation. Here are some tips and advice you will want to keep in mind in regards to New Zealand what to pack.
Luggage
No matter what you have planned for your New Zealand adventure, these luggage options are ideal for a short or long-term stay.
Pack for All Seasons
Keep in mind that New Zealand is the opposite season of the U.S. So if it is summer here, it is winter there. However, in New Zealand, you can get a feel for all four seasons in one day. The weather there changes often. It can be cold in the morning and evenings, have spring-like rain by mid-morning and feel scorching hot by afternoon. Therefore, you need to pack for all of the seasons, regardless of what season you are planning to travel in.
Clothes to Pack
Bring Rain Gear
It rains a lot in New Zealand. If you are planning on doing outdoor activities, you may want to bring along some rain gear. A lightweight rain jacket or packable poncho can keep you dry until the rains pass, which can increase your comfort level.
Pack Comfortable Shoes
You will do a lot of walking and hiking in New Zealand. While you may want to pack your favorite pair of high heels for a night out on the town, these are not shoes you will want to plan on wearing for the bulk of your vacation. Buy shoes ahead of time and break them in before your trip to ensure they fit your feet well and will not leave you with uncomfortable and painful blisters.
Be Aware of the Weight of the Items You are Packing
As you pack to head to New Zealand or leave the region, be aware of the weight of the items you are packing and how that weight coincides with the airline you are traveling with. Every airline will charge you a fee if you go over their weight limits. However, these fees can be quite hefty when traveling out of New Zealand. Pack within your weight limits to avoid being shocked by this high fee. Also keep in mind that if you are planning to travel from the US to New Zealand and then into Asia that many Asian airlines limit your baggage to one bag, rather than the two most US airliners permit.
Remember What Not to Pack
The last tip you want to keep in mind is in regards to what you cannot pack. When you are traveling into New Zealand, you are not allowed to bring in any fruit, vegetables, honey, meat, fish or flowers. These items can harm their local agriculture. If you have them, you will be forced to throw them away and may subject yourself to a lengthy inspection process. As such, you simply want to avoid packing them to prevent this unnecessary hassle.
