New website specializes in niche cruises

Travelers who prefer their cruises to come in small, intimate sizes have a new ally. A new website, run by the Niche Cruise Marketing Alliance, recently came online to promote this segment of the cruise industry.

The website represents 14 member lines that should be familiar to niche cruisers. They are American Cruise Lines, American West Steamboat Company, Antarctic Dream Expeditions, Cruise West, Discovery World Cruises, Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, Galapagos Explorer II, Imperial Majesty Cruise Line, Imperial River Cruises, Norwegian Coastal Voyage, Orion Expedition Cruises, Peter Deilmann Cruises, RiverBarge Excursion Lines, and Star Clippers.

Visitors to the website can read descriptions of each line, use an interactive map to discover which lines sail to which destinations, and look up travel agents who specialize in small-ship cruising.

Why take a niche cruise? The website explains that these cruise lines offer a more intimate experience on a small ship that can go where large megaships cannot. Niche cruises also place a high importance on protecting the environment and educating and enriching their guests.
