Republic Airways, which owns and plans to merge Frontier Airlines and Midwest Airlines, announced it will reveal a new name for the combined carrier on April 13. The decision follows a survey of 10,000 customers and almost 5,000 employees, the results of which were used to create a "brand promise" that will accompany the name.
For Frontier and Midwest, the writing has been on the wall for a while. Delta recently announced it will end its frequent flyer relationship with Midwest in June, while Midwest and Frontier have slowly aligned their respective mileage programs.
Republic is being tight-lipped about the eventual airline identity, and there's really no clear sense of whether it will retain either the Midwest or Frontier brand, name the merged airline Republic Airways, or come up with something entirely new.
Readers, what do you think the merged airline should be called? Which brand has more recognition, Frontier or Midwest? Or should the new airline start fresh with a new name?
