Located in Chiba Prefecture, the city of Narita is a picturesque part of Japan that has historically been an agricultural center. Visitors to the area will find many attractions to see and things to do.

Naritasan Temple

Naritasan Shinshoji Temple is a Buddhist temple that was built in 940 A.D. Its most sacred treasure is a statue of the Buddhist Fudo Myoo deity, one of the five kings of wisdom. This statue was carved by Kobo Daishi, a learned monk who founded the Shingon, or True Word, Sect of Buddhism.

You enter the temple through a large gateway. As you walk inside, you’ll be surrounded by ponds filled with turtles. You’ll also find stone tablets on either side of the stairs that lead up to the temple buildings. Notable structures on the grounds include the great pagoda of peace, Shotoku Taishi Hall, and a three-storied pagoda.
