If you travel to the island of Mykonos, you are probably there to relax, but there is also some great shopping. Explore local food and street markets, and also find all the best souvenirs to take to people at home.

Food to pick up in the markets include:

• sausages - seasoned with salt, oregano, savory, pepper and other spices

Matogianni Street is the main shopping street of the island - it has shops, restaurants, food stalls, and street market stalls. There are all types of shops here: jewelry, souvenirs, small cafes and restaurants, boutiques and top local and Greek designers, home decorations of sea-wood and other local materials, antiques, locally made crafts and art, and special paints.

Popular clothes stores include First, Prince Oliver, Lakis Gavalas, CarlaG., Carouzos, and Soho-Soho. Some famous Greek designers featured on Matogianni Street is LAK and Parthenis. You can find trendy sandals made by locals at Eccentrics. And you can find fantastic (if somewhat expensive) jewelry at Minas, which is across the street from the bar Pierro's.

Most shops and restaurants close from about 2 to about 6 pm, and then they all open again until just after midnight - except when a cruise ship docks during that time. So it's a good idea to check with your hotel whether something is open if you are planning to go shopping.
