Mumbai Shopping
As the most populated city in India and the ninth largest city in the world, Mumbai has an abundance of almost everything imaginable when it comes to shopping. You can acquire these items as best buys once you are equipped with the following inside tips.
Street Vendors
Be prepared to have room in your suitcase! Colaba Causeway is what some visitors call “shopping heaven.” It is a very long road lined with hundreds of street vendors. They sell everything from jewelry, brand clothes, instruments, fruits, books, home goods, and much more. Bargaining is a must, only pay what you think is fair and walk away if the price doesn’t suit you. Experienced shoppers advise comparing all the prices before you buy since most of the vendors sell the same things. One recommended shop is the Avante Cottage Crafts of India Supermarket at the cinema end of the Causeway. Fashion Street is also a favorite among the locals for quality clothes.
Shopping Malls
Mumbai has many shopping malls that include Infinity Mall, Oberoi Mall, and the Heera Panna Shopping Center. They have a number of renowned brands, restaurants, arcades, and even tailors that finish alterations as soon as same-day for emergencies. Not much bargaining can be done in these stores since the prices have fixed-rate tags. Fabindia is a chain store that sells garments, home decor, and ethnic products made by rural craftsmen throughout India. If your purchases are too heavy to carry home, they’ll ship it for you. You can also order online at their website.
Grocery Stores
Grocery stores have sprung up all over Mumbai and its suburbs, including Foodland, Spinach, Food Bazaar and Big Bazaar, and one of these is usually in every mall. One of the largest grocery stores is Hypercity next to the Inorbit mall in the Oshiwara/Malad area. These are the places to go for visitors craving food from home. Smaller local shops also have imported food but the turnover is not so high and the food probably isn’t the freshest. Grocery stores are a great place to shop for gifts to bring home and reminders of your trip. You can pick up mango jams, teas, papads, many kinds of masalas, chicken and vegetable mixes, and more. If you plan to seek out the freshest spices, though, local markets are usually your best bet.
