Mumbai is one of the biggest and most exciting cities in India. When you know what to pack (and what to leave at home), you can make the most out of your visit.
The temperature in Mumbai rarely drops below 25 degrees Celsius (77 degrees Fahrenheit) so it is important to be prepared for warm weather and sun. Make sure you have sunscreen, sunglasses, hats, and plenty of water to stay protected and hydrated. If you are on traveling on foot, make sure your supplies are secure by using a backpack or cross-body bag, rather than carrying a purse or bag that can be easily stolen.
Bring clothes that are light-colored and "breathe" easily. Some travelers recommend that women avoid skirts. Also, if you plan on entering any temples or houses, make sure your shoes are easy to slip on and off.
Clothes to Pack
The public toilets in Mumbai are just that - public. A good tip is to bring your own toilet paper and hand sanitizer, or try to avoid public restrooms altogether. Also, consider packing mosquito repellent since mosquitoes love the warm, humid weather. Be prepared for digestive issues by packing Pepto Bismol, or pick some up at inexpensive shops in the area.
Toiletries to Pack
One option to avoid over-packing and ensure you get the full Mumbai experience is to purchase what you need in the city. Clothing, toiletries, and even cameras and film are much less expensive in Mumbai than other destination cities and you won't have trouble finding the essentials for your visit.
