Transportation in Hat Yai: Minivans and Buses

Finding a new place to visit and explore is one thing, but getting there and getting around in the city is the first step. Here are some tips on minivans and minibuses to help you out with your Hat Yai transportation:

To Hat Yai

Previous visitors have found it’s very convenient to travel to Hat Yai by minivan. Booking early for a seat in a van will help things go smoothly because the minivan can carry only about 12 people. Often times you can book a hotel with the same bookers. The minivans usually run on time and sometimes early, and it’s a wonderful and pleasant journey to Hat Yai.

At Changlun, the minivan will stop for half an hour and the driver will ask for passports to write the entry card to Thailand. This is a good time change Malaysia Ringgit to Thai Baht, use the restroom, and then continue the journey to Hat Yai.

Once in Hat Yai the minivan will stop at another travel agent office where you can  collect the hotel reservation if you made one, and don’t forget to look for coupons for the return journey.

In Hat Yai

The bus station is about 2-3 km east from the train station off Siphunawat Rd.  You can buy the ticket in the bus station or in the bus, and they are very seldom completely full. Mini buses have offices opposite the train station and are usually 20-30% more expensive than the bus but will bring you to the town center.
