my michigan side trip

My michigan side trip was after my main trip, which was a 2 week long holiday by trekamerica, that went from miami to new york. they do small group organised trips through the us, canada, alaska, mexico, south america, australia and new zealand.

I had met a family in michigan online, and stayed with them in 2005, and again last year, in 2007. On this trip, they took me up to the upper peninisula, to perfect cheeseburgers at clydes, the locks at sault ste marie, the fireworks at mackinac bridge, a lighthouse. We spent the night there, then we went back to Ionia, where they live.

They also took me into grand rapids, a good midsized city, the same size as my own home city. The highlight was the fish ladder, where big fish move down locks almost, going down step by step in the water, you have to see it to believe it. They avoid all the fishermen there, and perpetuate their species.

I didnt get to see detroit, but that wasnt the highlight. The highlights was the upper peninsula, grand rapids, and Meijer, where i stocked up on a lot of american candy.

I dont know if i’ll be back in michigan. my next planned trips dont take in the east coast, but if i can make it there next time, i will.
