A Memborable/Comfortable Experience in Kansas

Author: Pamela J Garella
Date of Trip: April 2007

It was the first business trip out this year. To an unknown area- for me. Destination was Hayes , Kansas. Kansas, boy what a place to have to go. I had no idea what was there, how close I could get to my location to do my job, as well as what airport do I fly into. I looked to another adventure with excitement, but a bit concerned for my safety as well. But a biggy was, if I was going to do all this travel this year, I sure would like to enjoy it as well. The long days that I have experienced would welcome someone else cooking a home cooked breakfast and some comforts of home, as well as a geta way feeling, tied with business. My thought went to a bed and breakfast. It not only solved the need for some comfort with a business trip, it would provide me with a more secure environment while out of town. To an totally unknown area. Now would be the challenge to find a bed and breakfast, in “Hayes, Kansas”. Yes the thought had brought a skeptical laugh, as to what I just muttered. “Find a bed and breakfast there, this could be a challenge” Well much to my surprise, there was a bed and breakfast right in Hayes, Kansas. I took a double look at that. Not to be fooled by a possible mistake on the internet. I called the number provided. Yes, there is a God. There was a bed and breakfast, only app 4 miles from the job location. Now this had to be to good to be real. What could I expect upon arrival or the stay. As well as what possible was the price of this place. Affordable or maybe a motel further down the road, of a couple exits I would have to end up settling for. When I was told the price. I said book me.

My affiliate that was to meet me on the job location, of whom I didn’t even meet yet, until I arrived there. As the few days went on, come to find out he had paid very nearly as to what I paid for the bed and breakfast. Made my deal even sweeter. There is a God. I arrived, meeting a very pleasant lady. Down to earth and making me feel comfortable from the time I stepped on her porch. Immediately I had my get a way with business being taken care of. Coming in and feeling like you had home come with you. Getting up and having breakfast ‘presented’ to you, made it sink in even deeper of the ‘right’ choice I made. Relaxation, pampering and then off to work. With the extra benefit, of coming home after work and being pampered more. Wonderful bedroom, jacuzzi tub. My, my, I felt like just maybe I was on vacation. I came out here for work. Let me think about that again.

Forgetting another benefit a bed and breakfast can give you, while you travel. Meeting other people from every where, that came to stay for different reasons. A doctor and I engaged in health care talk, an issue close to my heart. A couple from sweden, in to visit family. A truly wonderful benefit of a bed and breakfast. Memories of that trip, as well as a disappointment in my affiliate had because he did not know to ever go to a bed and breakfast and have all that I had on my stay, seeing those flowers outside in the gardens bloom while I was there. The little touches of flowers on the table, a living room or gathering room to gather and chat in the evening before retiring to that comfortable bath and bed. That definitely makes life worthwhile and made me see, that I made the ‘right’ choice.

The churches right on the corners, that were so beautiful with stone of old. Come to find out, they are known for their churches in that area. So off I ran one afternoon with my camera while waiting for a crew to arrive at the location in app three hours. Found the Lady Victoria church. Yes got pictures. It was awesome. I will never forget how that choice to find a bed and breakfast, to not only serve the purpose of being in a strange area, that would bring me comfort. But as well all the amenities we all need ,to stop and smell the flowers along the way to our job. It makes the days go better, when you come back to whats important in your life and meeting people. Its whats on the way to our daily jobs that we must remember that makes life worthwhile. Conversations with a doctor on healthcare, chatting with others to know their life a little. Brings you home to what life is for. The ‘Tea Rose Inn’ of Hayes, Kansas put that back in my life. To enjoy our journey and meet others on the way. Smell the flowers, enjoy home away from home. Sure makes life worthwhile, when you travel for business. A benefit I forgot about.
