Melaka is the capital city of Malacca, a state in the country of Malaysia. The city boasts a massive tourism economy, and so it should come as no surprise that Melaka has an extensive transportation network of taxis, trishaws, and buses.

Trishaws

While there are taxis and buses in Melaka, a local favorite for getting around the historic sites of Malacca are the famed trishaws, which can easily be found at the Stadhuys and around the city clock tower. Other notable sites where you can regularly find trishaws are around the Replica Palace of the Sultan of Malacca, in Jonkers Walk, and around Jalan Kota.

The trishaws offer one-hour rides around the historic sites of Malacca, and the drivers provide colorful commentary about these sites. Bus

Melaka Sentral Bus Terminal is between Lebuh AMJ and Jalan Panglima Awang, a location that is very close to Tesco. There is a domestic bus terminal and a city bus terminal which are less than 200 meters apart, and can be reached by walking through the shopping mall. There are buses to different cities in Malaysia, or you can find bookings for destinations within the city. For a bus ride around the city at a cheaper price, keep your eye out for the Panorama-branded buses which offer discounted travel options.

Cars

While buses are a popular way for getting around the city, you can also find well-priced taxi rides. You will find these frequenting the area around the bus station as well as around the city. Private vans, too, will take you around Melaka and show you some of its most notable sites. These tour vans cost far more than a taxi since they spend several hours showing you the popular destinations around town.
