Maspalomas Things To Do – Attractions & Must See

Maspalomas Things to Do

Maspalomas is a beautiful area with wonderful golf resorts, great shopping, beaches, and terrific restaurants that serve delicious Spanish dishes. There is a big amusement park called Holiday Park that is popular with tourists.

Star Gazing

South Grand Canaria is the place to go to get away from the city lights and be able to do marvelous star gazing without any interference from light pollution that otherwise blocks the view of the nighttime sky. Check the weather before going; however, during most of the nights the skies are clear.

Good spots include the mountain areas near Mogan, Fataga, and San Bartolomé de Tirajanas. Take your telescope, pack some sandwiches, and take a thermos filled with your favorite warm drink, and then you can spend the night into the wee hours gazing at the stars.

Moonlight Cinema

Moonlight Cinema offers a unique way to watch recently-released, popular movies. The cinema is outside with comfortable sofas to sit on, blankets if it gets chilly, and you can order food and cocktails to be delivered to you while you watch the film.

Shopping

The Faro 2 shopping center is in an area that has many golf resorts. There are lovely shops, supermarkets, restaurants, and bars to enjoy. For the kids, there is a mini-golf course next to the mall. During the weekends, there is a popular flea market in the parking lot in front of Faro 2.

There is an indoor/outdoor market in Maspalomas called “El Mercadillo,’ that is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8:00-14:00. This market has a wonderful selection of items for sale and haggling over the price is a necessity in order to get a good deal. Inside this market is a café’ and food-stalls for some tasty snacks.

The Beaches

Playa de Meloneras is right at the end of the Meloneras area. It is a small beach but has less wind than the Playa de Maspalomas. At the Playa de Meloneras, there is a five-star hotel called Playa Meloneras Palace H10. There is also a nice shopping center. Because of beach erosion, much of the sand washed away, so it is best to wear water shoes or sandals to walk into the water to protect your feet from damage caused by sharp stones.

Botanical Park

El Parque Botánico de Maspalomas is a nice little (covers an area of 12,000 square meters) botanical park located at the end of the golf area in Maspalomas, right at the bottom of the hill which takes you to Playa del Ingles.

Because of the location, it has a special microclimate. It has about 50 different species, ranging from a wide variety of palms from all over the world to all kinds of vegetables, medicinal plants, and aromatic plants. It has a nice sitting area where you can rest and look at the beautiful plants and trees.

Nature Reserve

The nature reserve of Las Dunas has many animals, birds, and reptiles. The area around the nature reserve is called The Oasis. Next to it is a lovely little oasis with lots of palm-trees.

Holiday World

The Holiday World in Maspalomas is a landmark because it is possible to see the 27-meters high Ferris wheel from afar, be it night or day. There is also a rollercoaster and a laser show plus all the exciting rides which a funfair usually has. Inside, there is a very popular bowling alley, an Internet café, amusement arcades, a gym with a spa, two nightclubs, many cafés, and restaurants.
