Makassar Nightlife – Clubs, Bars, & Nightlife Tips

Makassar Nightlife

While visiting Indonesia, Makassar is a must-not-miss spot for an authentic Indonesian experience. Once a dominant trade center in the 16th century, Makassar is not too far from Bali and the Makassar nightlife is worth the overnight stay.

Street That Never Sleeps

While all the shops close at sunset and never open on Sundays, the amusement park of Trans Studio is always open and perfect for drinking, enjoying the music, local culture, and dancing. This famous Makassar nightlife strip requires casual dress but you should avoid sneakers and shorts. Melodi bar offers karaoke, but Madonna is the most popular joint on the block. With plenty of bars to choose from, there is something here for everyone who stays to enjoy the nightlife. Bugis women, also known as night butterflies, keep you company while you drink at the bars and sing Karaoke.

Makassar’s Chinatown

Chinatown is a good place to hang out at night. Downtown Chinatown’s atmosphere glitters when the mercury lamps shine off the new temple buildings in the background. Here you will find several hawker stalls and fresh fruit sellers. Located at Jalan Sulawesi and Nusantara, Makassar this is not so far from Jalan Jampea.

Zig-Zag Disco

While many locals head to bed as the sun sets and the city sleeps, the nightlife in Makassar comes alive. Zig-Zag Disco is a “famous” gay-bar in the city that is fun and offers great drinks and ambiance. Bars do not limit tourist’s entry by how they dress. Wear what you want and enjoy the nightlife here. Zig-Zag Disco is opposite the Golden Makassar Hotel, Ujung Pandang.
