Major Winter Storm Targets Mid-Atlantic

A massive winter storm is bearing down on the mid-Atlantic, promising to throw travel from and to Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia, and New York into chaos. Pittsburgh, Richmond, and Atlantic City are also in the storm’s path, and delays could easily radiate to airports throughout the country. Ben Mutzabaugh at Today in the Sky reports that airlines are already canceling flights.

“Many flights have been proactively canceled ahead of the storm,” Mutzabaugh writes. “Southwest, for example, has canceled its entire Saturday schedule at three airports in the storm’s path. The nation’s biggest low-cost carrier will not operate a single flight to Baltimore/Washington (BWI), Philadelphia and Washington Dulles. BWI is one of Southwest’s busiest airports, and the airline’s Saturday shutdown at the three airports will disrupt travel plans for thousands of customers on that airline alone.”
