Lots of Excitement

Author: Ruth Grosvenor
Date of Trip: May 2012

We flew from Phoenix to Charlotte, rented a Ford Focus, and we were on our way in uncovered area of the US where we had never been. The 1st night was in Charlotte. Then we went to Ashville, NC to the Biltmore Hotel. We had a lovely ride along the way, stopping for lunch at a lovely area overlooking a beautiful lake. We were not alone. There were about 1000 Canadian Geese joining us all around our car. I think they got more food than us. They even got into the car and it was murder getting them out.

Finally we were on our way to the Mansion. It was so beautiful, the Mansion and the gardens, We were about 1/2 way through, and Bang, a horrible storm struck. We were walking with others, and had to head back to the car. We were headed, the next day to the Smoky Mt’s. We had the Senior Park Pass and could not figure out why they did not look at it. Well, this is the only FREE Nat. park in the county. We came out of the park to a very quaint town. Beautiful, but really crowded, and then headed to Dollywood. This was a Theme park in the area right on the way. Every night we had one of those big storms, usually the time we had to leave for dinner. The next day we were headed towards Greenboro, NC where the John Edwards trial was being heard. So much media and excitement their, but we never did see Mr. Edwards. We got lost so many times, and this always happens to us. This is the fun and joy of our land trip.

Now we were headed to Charlotte again. The Big Nascar races were their. We had booked this trip long in advance and knew of none of these things in advance. We drove up to the race area, my husband, being a car nut, just loved all the excitement, color, and noise of the cars.

The next day we headed out to see where the “Batchlorette” was being filmed live at the time we were there. He knows this is my favorite TV show. We drove, and drove, and drove and never did find it. We knew the township it was being filmed in, but that is as far as it went.

We left the next day for home, only to be delayed by the VP of America’s plane planning to take off. IT was delayed 2 hr’s and we never did see it. We missed our connection home. We figured he was their probably planned the convention. Not only that we were unable to tour downtown Charlotte, because all the streets were cut off.
