Lorne Things To Do – Attractions & Must See

Lorne Things to Do

Lorne is a popular seaside stop for people traveling through the surf coast shire region on the Great Ocean Road in Australia. If you are going to stop as you pass through the southwestern part of Australia, here are some attractions in and around Lorne that you should see and visit.

View Memorial Arch

Very close to Lorne is the Memorial Arch. The Great Ocean Road represents a lot of things to Australians – determination, hard work, and memories. In particular, the road was built to memorialize the heroic actions of the Anzacs in World War I and to commemorate the opening of the originally-named “Returned Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Great Ocean Road”.

Lorne Beach

One of the focal points, when you are in Lorne, is the local beach park. The beach is located on the shore of Louttit Bay and swimmers are protected by the Lorne Surf Lifesavers club. You should always swim within the flags boundaries out in the bay. During its busiest months, it is also a dog-free beach, which means you will not have to run back into the surf to clean off your feet after stepping on a landmine.

The Gable and Twelve Apostles

The Gable lies between Lorne and the Twelve Apostles yet is seldom visited by tourists. Here you have the highest cliffs and splendid views of the ocean. The carpark for Gable is only a couple of miles from Lorne and then it’s around a 15-minute walk to the viewing platform

The dirt road turnoff is something you have to keep your eye out for and you should check your map carefully to make sure you don’t drive past it. The Twelve Apostles, dramatic spires of rock sitting out in the ocean, are a couple of miles further down the road and it is a major tourist attraction.
