Leap of Faith

Author: Darlene Wetzel
Date of Trip: April 2012

I have always wanted to travel more and see the world but I had fallen into the same old thing called “routineville”. I am a single parent of a 13 year old and I have been in a ongoing relationship for 9 years now. I woke up one day and decided “hey life is too short so get out and see what’s on the other side of your box.

I booked a trip to Miami South Beach Florida and a 3 day cruise to the Bahamas. My boyfriend has a fear of flying and my son and boyfriend both were scared of going on a cruise. I had done both before in my younger days and was up for the challenge. We were excited about our new adventure. We wanted to have a family trip that would inspire us to want to take more in the future. We headed to the airport with sweaty palms and we boarded our plane. We were just chattering about anything to keep our minds busy. Before we knew it we flying above the clouds. I could already feel my attitude soaring like the plane with great vibes. I couldn’t believe it. I finally did it. I got away from the same ole same ole day in day out routine I had created for myself. When we landed in Miami we were excited to explore. We checked into our suite on South Beach and started checking out the beautiful sites and beaches. It was perfect temp in the middle 80’s. We laid around on the beaches enjoying the sun and the sounds of the ocean. I thought to myself, why did you wait so long. My son experienced several new things as a teenager. He had his first plane ride, climbed a coconut tree and see bare boobies on the beach, which to my surprise isn’t uncommon in Miami.

We still had one more new adventure to tackle, the cruise ship! We had our passports and were ready to sail the seas. We could hardly contain our excitement. We took no chances and put the seasickness patches on. No problems….we were ready to sail away into the sunset. We ate, danced, ate some more and mingle with everyone we came across. It felt awesome being carefree and enjoying each others company. We truly had the best trip ever and we can’t wait to plan another family vacation. No more excuses. We are going to “just do it”!
