Larnaca Things To Do – Attractions & Must See

The island of Cyprus is a convenient stop along the way to many places in the Middle East. Visiting Cypriot cities such as Larnaca is a wonderful way to explore this unique country.

Larnaca Things to Do

The port city has an inviting harbor and a layered history you can see in person.

A Tour of the City

Begin your journey here with a guided tour.  Stop by the Cyprus Tourism Organization for a look around the city with an English guide. You’ll spend about two hours touring the city with a lunch break and will cover about 2.5 kilometers.

Museums, Beaches and an Aqueduct

If you love science, check out the Municipal Museum of Paleontology. The museum contains fossils that are over five-hundred-million-years-old. Housed in five British colonial era buildings, it is very popular with local school groups. Another local site well worth a look is the Larnaca Aqueduct. This stone structure was built in 1746 by Koca Bekir Pasha. It was in use for over two hundred years and is lit up at night If you like to walk, stroll down the Larnaca promenade and grab a seat at a local cafe. Here, you’ll find the beach. It starts from the harbor and then winds around the Armenian Monument down all the way to the old Fort of Larnaca. You can rent an umbrella, sit down, and relax for a while.  Look for Dasoudi Public Beach and Larnaca Public Beach for beaches that are open to the public. If you’re interested, try Dhekelia Beach. McKenzie Beach is perfect for SCUBA diving. It is adjacent to the airport and has lots of restaurants serving fresh fish. Be aware that all the beaches tend to be very busy in the summer.

The Salt Lake

Next to the city is a vast and beautiful temporary salt lake. This is one of the major wetlands in the area. It is a Special Protected Area that has been set aside from the city and the lake is an important migratory point for birds across the Mediterranean Sea. You can expect to see over 85 species of birds including flamingos. They come here from December to March. Take the marked trail for a close up look.
