Lake Como Area

Author: Shellyf
Date of Trip: June 2015

My wife and I and another couple planned this trip long in advance and that was the key to everything going right. We used to get half priced business class seats to Milan and arrived rested and happy. We had a driver waiting for us and he drove through all the quaint towns on the western road up to our final destination, the town of Tremezzo. We stayed at the fabulous Grand Hotel Tremezzo, which was right on the lake with picture postcard view of the lake, the ferries and the villages across the lake. We stated here a week and the service was exceptional throughout.

A buffet breakfast was included with the room price and it was a huge room with different tables holding all kinds of meats, smoked salmon, cereals, fruits, jams and jellies, breads and pastries, cheeses and even an omelette chef who cooked your eggs made to order and any way you wanted. You then took your plates out to the terrace which looked out onto the lake and it was just lovely, Dinner is also served on this terrace. We went somewhere different each day. You just walk down to the water at a nearby ferry station and go to the different villages across and up and down the lake. One day we went to Bellagio, a 10 minute ferry across the lake and had a wonderful lunch at a restaurant on the lake. Another day we took the hydrofoil boat and in 20 minutes we were in the town of Como, with all its shops and sights. We never needed a car as the small town of Tremezzo was in easy walking distance to visit other restaurants and stores and we took ferries to see the different villages. We had a driver bring us to our hotel in Milan at the end of the trip as we wanted to do some shopping there. It was an amazing trip with beautiful memories. Next year its the Amalfi!!!
