The old downtown area was originally a walled city. You can still explore the old walls today; it's also a great place to start your exploration of the city, since many of the city's other tourist attractions are within walking distance.

The Shalimar Gardens were built in 1641 C.E. by the emperor Shah Jahan.  There are three main terraces, named the giver of life, giver of goodness and the giver of pleasure.  There are 450 fountains that water the garden using an ingenious combination of water pressure and gravity. If you see nothing else in Lahore, you must see these gardens.

The Badshahi Mosque was completed in 1673 for the Mughal Emperor Urangzeb.  It is among the largest mosques in the world. The building, a shining example of Mughal-era architecture, is made of red stone.

Inside the Lahore Fort are royal palaces, gardens, fountains, baths, and many great pieces of art and architecture from the Mughal period. The fort was the capital for the Mughaiemporer Akbar in the 1580s. The area itself has been occupied since the 1100s.

The zoo in Lahore was finished in 1870 and is one of the oldest  in the world. in addition to the zoo, there is also a safari park where you can see animals in the wild.  It is a clean and well-kept zoo, and a good area for family picnics as well.

Joy Land near the Fortress Stadium is a large play area for kids. There are Ferris wheels and many other kinds of rides, as well as games kids will enjoy. There is also mini golf course.
