Kyoto is one of the most important cultural cities in the country of Japan. The city has a population of over 1.5 million people and was even the capital of Japan for over 1,000 years. People travel here throughout the year for the festivals, museums, and to just generally experience everything that Japanese culture has to offer. Kyoto also has some of the best nightlife in Japan.
One night when you are out and about, check out the Aqua Fantasy. It is a water-based light show that occurs on the roof of a shop in front of Kyoto Station. The show happens four times a night, usually starting at 7:00 p.m.
Dance the Night Away at Kitsune
Japan has some of the best electronic music clubs in the world. One of them is Kitsune in Kyoto. The club has two floors, so if you aren’t enjoying what you are hearing you can just go to the other floor and listen to the other DJ. The club is also a very popular spot for both locals and tourists, making it a great place to mingle while on vacation.
Gion and Pontocho
If you want some nightlife action in Kyoto without going to a typical bar or dance club, this is the spot. There are shows each night depicting traditional Japanese culture. They include geishas, puppet shows, and more. You are allowed to take pictures of this cultural event, unlike some others. Don’t try to be part of the action though as they don’t allow crowd participation. The area is basically a sampler platter for Japanese high culture. Check out the tea ceremony while you are there.
