Karachi Things to Do
Karachi is located at the southern end of Pakistan on the coast of the Arabian Sea. It is the largest city in Pakistan and offers plenty of things to do for travelers to the region.
Stroll by the Sea
No visit to Karachi would be complete without spending some time at the seaside, called Sea View. This area is home to many restaurants and shops to keep you entertained. The area is most beautiful at sunrise and sunset, so be sure to visit during at least one of these times. During the evening on Saturdays and Sundays, you can view one of the tallest jet fountains in the world, right at Clifton Beach. There are even boat tours that take you out to see the fountain up close.
Visit Frere Hall
Frere Hall is a stunning building in the Victorian Gothic architecture style. It dates back to the 1800’s, when the area was under British rule. The surrounding gardens and grounds are the perfect setting for an afternoon stroll and will give you plenty of opportunities to take some great photographs of the historic building. Although Frere Hall was closed to the public in the mid-2000’s due to security concerns, it has since been reopened.
See the Mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam
The Mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam is one of the most recognizable sights in Karachi. It was built in honor of Mohammad Ali Jinnah, a Muslim politician and the founder of Pakistan. The tomb itself is guarded at all times, and the ceremonial changing of the guard is an experience that is not to be missed. There are many stray dogs roaming the area, so exercise caution. You never know the temperament or health of a particular dog.
Tour the Pakistan Air Force Museum
The Pakistan Air Force Museum is a must-see for anyone interested in aircrafts or military history. Pakistani war heroes get recognition throughout many of the exhibits, including founder M.A. Jinnah, mentioned above. You’ll also see a number of old fighter jets and other antique aircrafts. Engine parts are also on display, letting you see how it all works. There is even a dedicated play area for young children, making this a destination for all ages.
