Jordan Warnings or Dangers – Stay Safe!

Jordan Warnings and Dangers

Jordan is a beautiful, historic country located in the Middle East. But, be warned that the topography, road conditions, and tourist traps can make for a dangerous experience.

Cars and Camels in Jordan

Jordan is a free-for-all when it comes to driving. We recommend finding a local driver who knows the area to help you navigate the roads. Whether it’s wild drivers or camels crossing the street, you could find yourself in danger if you try to drive on your own.

Some of the scariest things on the roads are overladen trucks that block traffic or road access. Or, you might be driving down the Desert Highway when a camel decides to slowly make its way across the road. If you decide to drive in Jordan, be vigilant. Hitting a camel would definitely damage your vehicle and the animal.

Walking Or Climbing

The city of Petra, Jordan is full of amazing sights. You might even see Hollywood producers take advantage of the bright red sandstone and rock formations for movie backdrops. But, places like the Wadi Rum in Jordan are dangerous if you try climbing or walking without proper experience.

Be sure to take advantage of tour guides and Jordanian experts who know how to navigate the topography. Otherwise, you might injure yourself trying to navigate this unique scenery.

The Dead Sea

A trip to Jordan is not complete until you visit the historic Dead Sea. But, you should be aware of the dangers. The first danger is to be aware of people who target tourists at the Dead Sea. Some are innocent just wanting to sell you a keepsake item like sand in a bottle. Others make claims about the healing powers of the Dead Sea in exchange for a small tip.

The other danger at the Dead Sea is the water itself. If you stick your shoes in the water, they will likely be ruined. So, either don’t stick your shoes in the water, or bring an extra pair! Also, don’t try to swim in the Dead Sea. If you do, you’ll end up with a mouth full of very salty water. Instead, lie on your back and float in the water.

Jordan has beautiful cities like Amman and Petra to visit. But, you need be careful when driving, walking, or touring. It is better to be safe than adventurous in a foreign country, especially when modern life is shoehorned into this historic land.
