    JetBlue

is aiming to please beach lovers by adding Aruba to its list of destinations. The carrier, which was recently voted

    top low-fare airline

, has petitioned the U.S. Department of Transportation for permission to fly nonstops from its hub at New York (JFK) to Aruba. Pending approval from both the U.S. and Aruban governments, JetBlue is planning its first Aruba-bound flight for September 15.

This seems to be another case of 'the little airline that could' challenging its larger rivals on an attractive international route. JetBlue already flies to Bermuda, the Bahamas, and the Dominican Republic.
