Just two weeks away from its inaugural LAX flights, JetBlue has announced it won’t be expanding to the L.A. hub after all. USA Today reports the airline still hopes to one day service that airport, but now has no immediate plans to do so. Given the current economic climate, LAX’s center as a hub for transcontinental flights, high fuel prices, and competition from other carriers, this expansion just proved too costly (for now) for JetBlue.
The airline will still service other area airports, including Long Beach and Burbank. Stay tuned for updates on the planned expansion, but don’t anticipate anything in the near future. Given the current state of air travel, it’ll be awhile before anything happens.
