Jersey City Things to Do
Jersey City is the second most heavily populated city in the state of New Jersey. It has seen continual growth in the 21st century, and there are many attractions to see and things to do when visiting.
One of the best areas to view the skyline of lower Manhattan and the World Trade Center is from J. Owen Grundy Park. There is a pier extending into the Hudson River and also seating alongside several covered pavilions. It is very popular on the weekends and in the evening, when the sun sets and lights up the Manhattan skyline. This is the best time of day to capture photos of Manhattan.
A wonderful, open area of New Jersey is Liberty State Park. Located right along New York Harbor, it provides a great view of Ellis Island, the Statue of Liberty, and Battery Park across the Hudson. There is also the Empty Sky Memorial to see, which commemorates the destruction of the World Trade Center, which left an ‘Empty Sky’.
Well hidden behind the modern towers that loom over the waterfront, Jersey City’s Historic Downtown district is a treasure trove waiting to be discovered. It contains beautiful rows of townhouses that take visitors back to the 19th century. The areas surrounding Van Vorst Park and Hamilton Park are particularly charming.
