A GPS and Directions
The Isle of Skye is one of the largest islands in the United Kingdom. Bear in mind the climate when deciding what to pack for your trip. Scenic Isle of Skye is one of the most popular destinations in the Inner Hebrides of Scotland. Before you go, you need warm clothing and protection against the rain and the small summer insects.
It rains a lot of the Isle of Skye, even in the summer. You need to bring good quality rain gear. Pack an umbrella that can protect you from anything from few drops to a huge storm. Drizzle is a fact of life on the Island of Skye all year long. A rain coat or poncho is a must. You also need rubber covers for your shoes in town and on the mountains. Additionally, it can get surprisingly cold here even during the summer. Bring a warm jacket and long-sleeved clothing.
Clothes to Pack
Many places on the Isle of Skye are home to large swarms of tiny insects called midges. Midges won't kill you but they will make you uncomfortable. If you're here during the summer, make sure you always have plenty of insect repellent everywhere you go. Any other toiletries should be brought from home for easier access, but anything needed on your trip can be bought at any local pharmacy.
Toiletries to Pack
Many mountain ranges on the island have large magnetic rocks. These rocks will make your compass useless. Bring a GPS instead so you don't get lost. A laminated map is also a must so you know where you're headed and the map is protected from the rain at the same time.
