Date of Trip: September 2014
Spent 7 days in Ireland, 3 days in Dublin then drove north to Belfast, Donegal and Galway then back to Dublin for a flight to Edinburgh. Would recommend you get an “automatic” if you’re not use to driving on the wrong side and shifting with your left. B&B are numerous, people are very friendly and very helpful with suggestions of what to see. Would recommend you take a tour of Ring of Kerry instead of driving yourself. This way the driver also gets to enjoy the scenery. September was a great time to be there – not one day with rain and warm enough to shed jackets by noon.
Spent 5 days in Scotland flying into Edinburgh then over to Glasgow…and it was not nearly long enough to be able to explore the country. Pay attention to what the Travel Books tell you to see – they are usually not wrong.
Be sure to take the free guided tours of the castles, you learn a lot of the history in a short amount of time. If I had it to do again, and hope I will, two weeks in each country is the better alternative.
Looking forward to going back… soon!
