Hikkaduwa Things to Do
Bordered by sandy beaches and tropical forests, the small town of Hikkaduwa sits along the coasts of Sri Lanka. Tourists will find many relaxing things to do while visiting the area.
Temples and Memorials
Seenigama Vihara Temple is located just a few kilometres north of Hikkaduwa, close to Peraliya and Telwatta. There is a temple building by the roadside, lots of colorful banners that hang outside the temple, and some spectacular palm-fringed coastlines toward the back. However, the main attraction here is the temple itself. It stands on its own small island less than 100 meters from the shore.
Another temple in the area is Gangarama Mahavihara, which sits just off the Baddegama Road. This is a rather tranquil location that’s slightly set off from the rest of the town.
There are a number of activities you can participate in along the Hikkaduwa coastline. The coasts are a popular place for visitors to go snorkeling. While in the water, you’ll most likely catch sight of Hikkaduwa’s popular turtles, which are notably large in size. There are also many colorful fish in the waters.
You can also go surfing while you’re in the area. There are a few business owners who will show you some of the popular spots around Hikkaduwa. Off the coast, you’ll see both locals and tourists surfing along the waves.
