Things to Do in Mumbai: Hanging Gardens
The Hanging Gardens in Mumbai is one of the most popular destinations for tourists. Here are a few tips and tricks to maximize your level of enjoyment while visiting the Hanging Gardens.
Consider a Guide
There are plenty of guides available to show you around the Hanging Gardens. While you should also just wander at your own pace later on, consider booking a guide your first time through. This way, you can learn a bit of the history about the garden and what some of the sculptures represent (or who commissioned the statues). There is so much history found in the gardens, yet you don’t want to have your nose in a book while attempting to navigate the gardens. You’ll miss too much doing it this way. Your hotel can help connect with you with a tour guide, or you can book one upon arrival at the Hanging Gardens.
Stay for the Sunset
The Hanging Gardens is perched on the top of the Malabar Hill. You’ll see a beautiful sunset over the Arabian Sea as the sun melts under the horizon. The colors are incredible and the golden tone of the early evening light melds beautifully with the garden itself. This may be the best location in all of Mumbai to see a sunset.
An Inexpensive Visit
There is no fee to enter the Hanging Gardens, so if you’re looking for a way to enjoy your day without spending any money, a visit to the gardens is a must. There are a few vendors near the entrance and exit of the garden, but they are not allowed inside. This way, you have more open space and less foot traffic while inside. Just make sure to pick up anything you might want to eat before entering. Bring water as well as you are often in the open sunlight for most of the day, though there are some park benches under trees.
Relax and Enjoy
The Hanging Gardens is there for you to enjoy. You’ll see children playing, couples holding hands, and people reading books. It is almost as if you walked into a different time period. Enjoy the park and feel free to relax – that is what it is there for.
